After Messi, two Argentines have scored more than three goals in La Liga

Atletico Madrid's Argentine striker Julian Alvarez scored three goals in the Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecano in the sixth round of the Spanish La Liga. The match ended in a victory for the "mattress makers" (3:2). Alvarez is the third Argentine player since 2020 to score a hat-trick in a single La Liga match.

On 22 February 2020, Lionel Messi scored four goals in a 5:0 win over Eibar. Since then, only Álvarez and Valentin Castellanos have scored three or more goals among Argentines. Lazio striker Tati scored four goals in a 4:2 win over Real Madrid on 25 April 2023.

Alvarez joined Atletico in August 2024. His contract with the club runs until 2030. The Argentine has scored four goals and provided one assist in six games this season.
