Former French international Emmanuel Petit has been left baffled by comments from Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim about the impact of the pandemic on professional players. Amorim has previously said that players believe the media when they say the team's problems are the formation.
"This is the first time I've heard a manager justify his players' failures like this. The players know you're talking complete nonsense. How can you say things like that when you're managing Manchester United? If you can't handle criticism while working or playing for a top club and earning that much money, then change teams. Don't work for a top club."
I read that and thought: "Did he say that seriously?" I've played for the best clubs and I've never made excuses on the pitch. Just take responsibility, be a man. I remember how I sometimes got really upset by the words of the critics. They were mostly unfair, but you have to accept it.
"There are a lot of people at the club who don't have the character to change the situation. Guys, just be honest with yourself when you're in front of the mirror. Tell yourself: 'I can't do this because I'm afraid.' Be honest and change," Petya said, according to Metro, citing Boyle Sports.
