Manchester United midfielder and captain Bruno Fernandes has explained why he decided to stay at the club this summer despite attractive financial offers from Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad. It was reported that the club's star player and Fernandes' compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, who was given the opportunity to participate in the club's transfers after extending his contract, was personally interested in a move to Al-Nassr.
"The coach spoke to me. He said I was still part of the project. He wanted me to stay. The club said the same.
And I've always said that if the club said: 'Bruno, we want to make money, you're 30 years old. We need to make money. We don't see you as part of the future project' or something like that, I would have to find a solution that would be best for me and my family. And I would have left. But that wasn't the case at all.
"I felt like I was still part of the club's plan, that I could still help the club achieve whatever it wanted. That's what made me stay," Fernandes was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
The Mancunians are not participating in European competitions this season. After eight rounds of the English Premier League, the Red Devils have 13 points and are in ninth place.
