Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta has commented on the penalty his team was awarded in the 33rd minute of their Serie A match against Napoli. The home team's midfielder Kevin De Bruyne converted it, and Napoli won the match 3-1. The referee was Maurizio Mariani.
"I want to contribute to the football system because even I am a little confused and need more clarity. Napoli deserved to win, but the penalty was decisive in changing the balance of power and was the result of the assistant referee's suggestion. The referee did not blow the whistle. I think this incident should have been reviewed by VAR and the video replays would have shed more light. Napoli's victory, in my opinion, was largely due to this. Coming back to the penalty, we should consider it as a separate incident, independent of the game.
I will start with Roca's own words: "Enough with the soft penalties." I have read comments from respected journalists who believe that it was not a penalty, and I wanted to contribute to the discussion, to shed some light. I believe in the central role of the referee: when the assistant referee intervenes, the referee is no longer so easily influenced. I entered the dressing room at half-time and the penalty certainly left a bitter taste. Napoli would have won, but I think about the chronology of the game and how we got to that point. From that moment on, the game changed. Napoli deserved to win in the last half hour. Our players gave their all. Long live them," Marotta told the Milan club's official website.
