Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi commented on the performance of his team's defender Benjamin Pavard in the 9th round of the French Ligue 1 match against Lens.
"Both defeats can be explained by Pavard's performance. In Lisbon he was unlucky with an own goal. I didn't see a chance tonight, but I'm sure he committed a foul. He was unlucky again with an own goal. He shouldn't lose confidence. He's a valuable, experienced player. Such situations shouldn't affect him. He should stay calm and enjoy playing for Marseille. I would like to have a few players like him in my team. Last year we won without deserving it. Today it's the opposite," De Zerbi was quoted as saying by Footmercato.
In the match against Lens, Pavard earned a free kick for his team, which was converted by striker Odsonne Edouard, and then scored an own goal in the 53rd minute. After nine matches in the French championship, Marseille is in third place in the standings with 18 points. PSG is the leader with 20 points.
