German midfielder Lothar Matthaus has shared his opinion on whether Bayern Munich's reserve goalkeeper Jonas Urbig can replace Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
"Jonas Urbig will return to goal on Wednesday in Cologne (in the German Cup round of 16 match – ed.). On Saturday in Mönchengladbach he had already managed to adapt to the atmosphere of the stadium, which will be similar to the one he will encounter in the cup match against his former club."
Urbig has been good at Bayern so far, apart from one mistake in Berlin (last season's 1-1 draw with Union Berlin in the Champions League), and he was there at the right time. He can learn from Manuel Neuer every day in training. If Jonas develops accordingly, he could one day become his successor. Stuttgart's Alexander Nübel is also among the possible successors to Neuer, as he is still at Bayern. "It remains to be seen how long Nübel will follow this situation," Matthaus was quoted as saying by Sky Sport Germany.
Urbig has played two matches for the Munich club this season, conceding two goals.
