As part of the fifth round of the European Zone qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup, the Armenian national team led by Yeghishe Melikyan hosted the Hungarian national team in the last home match of 2025. Our team performed well in the away match, but Eduard Spertsyan and his teammates lost 0:2. The start went well for the Armenian football players: the Armenian national team, led by Edgar Sevikyan, Hrant-Leon Ramos and Zhirayr Shaghoyan, managed to create a chance at the Hungarian goal and put pressure on the opponent for some time, while not letting go of the back line, where Erik Piloyan, Sergey Muradyan, Styopa Mkrtchyan and Nair Tiknizyan play. This match is completely different from the previous one - it was like homework, the stage of organizing attacks was excellent with the participation of our team, but in the final phase it causes problems - Milos Kerkez and in the 33rd minute of the match the opponent rushes into the attack, as a result of which 31-year-old Barnabas Vardan opened the score of the match.
In the second half, the Armenian team looked good, playing three consecutive corners but could not beat the opponent on the second floor. Thirteen minutes before the end of the regular time of the match, the Hungarians put pressure on Spertsyan and his friends, in response to which the Armenians created a real scoring opportunity, but without a final shot. Yeghishe Melikyan's boys showed more active football in the second half, but failed to do more.
