Azerbaijani "Qarabag" sets a new Champions League record

In the play-off round of the 2025/26 Champions League season, Azerbaijan's Qarabag lost to Newcastle United 3:9 on aggregate (1:6, 2:3), setting the all-time record for goals conceded in a single season in Europe's premier club competition, according to the Opta Sport statistical portal.

According to the source, Qarabag have conceded 30 goals in just eight Champions League games and two playoff games. This is more than any other team has conceded in an entire Champions League season. Never before has a team conceded so many goals in a single Champions League season.

Newcastle's opponent in the round of 16 will be either Chelsea or Barcelona.
