US President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the possible participation of the Iranian national team in the 2026 World Cup.
"We are ready to welcome Iran to the World Cup, but I truly believe they should not be there for their own lives and safety," Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.
It should be added that the Iranian national team was drawn in Group G along with Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand. It should be recalled that the 2026 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States from June 11 to July 19.
Earlier, Iran's sports minister officially announced that the national team would not participate in the tournament, which is why FIFA is developing a contingency plan to find an alternative solution in the event of an official withdrawal.
