Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has commented on his team's 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 FA Cup. The result prevented Arsenal from reaching the semi-finals of the competition. Arteta noted that he does not associate the elimination of two competitions with the pursuit of quadruple trophies.
"No. And I don't want to make excuses for the players who are missing or those who are here but have problems. That's not the problem. We have to look in the mirror, accept the situation and go to Portugal (for the Champions League quarter-final against Sporting Lisbon - ed.) with a clear mind, the right understanding and ready for the next challenge."
"Can missing out on two competitions help us fight for the title? I don't know. We are out now and although that is the case, the pain remains. But once that pain is gone, we have to make the most of the time we have to maximise our resources and improve," Arteta told the club's official website.
Arsenal will play Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on April 7.
