Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has set up a new charitable foundation to manage the proceeds from the sale of the London club, The Athletic reports.
It was previously reported that £2.35 billion from the sale of Chelsea in 2022 still remains in a frozen bank account. Abramovich and the British government cannot agree on the fate of these funds: Roman insists on supporting all those affected by the ongoing military conflict, while the government demands that the entire amount be transferred to Ukraine.
However, last weekend, the UK Charity Commission received an application to set up a charity called the "Conflict Victims Fund".
According to the source, the directors include high-ranking and influential diplomats, and the foundation itself is linked to Abramovich.
The application has not yet been approved. Moreover, there is no guarantee that the government will agree to unfreeze the funds and transfer them to the fund.
