Amorim on Onana: "We will evaluate every position, including goalkeeper, but Andre is something we can work with. At Inter he proved to be a top-class player."
Ruben Amorim said he continues to trust Andre Onana.
Manchester United's manager has confirmed that Onana will start in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Lyon. The goalkeeper previously missed the Premier League clash against Newcastle.
"When I made the decision last weekend, I spoke to Andre. It's important for me to explain to the player what I think. Sometimes my coaching feelings influence my decision more than what I'm told. I lead the conversations, but ultimately the decision is mine."
- Are you sure Onana is ready to return?
-Yes, I'm sure of it. The team comes first. I'm not choosing Andre because I think he deserves to return to the competition. I'm thinking about the match because it's really important for us.
Every action has two paths. If tomorrow he is really good, which I am sure he will be, then it is a good decision, but if the opposite is the case, then it is a bad one. You never know for sure. I try to be clear about everything, assess the situation and be clearer. Andre Onana had a few days off and now he is ready to play.
