Aston Villa director criticizes refereeing in Champions League match with PSG
PSG lost to Aston Villa in the second quarter-final match (2:3), but came back stronger in the two matches (the first match was 3:1) and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament.
In the second leg, the English team trailed by four goals to the Parisians after scoring two early goals. Aston Villa eventually took a 3–2 lead, one goal down in extra time. The referee of the match was José María Sánchez Martínez.
"I went to ask the fourth official about the added time and his attitude was quite arrogant. Donnarumma dragged the game out and the three minutes seemed like a joke to me.
I don't hold them responsible for the elimination, because we had time to score another goal, but this decision is not normal.
As a compatriot, it's offensive to me, because in Spain the proceedings are different, the referees' interference is too great. "They don't help the game," said Aston Villa director Ramon Monchi.
