Markus Babel criticized the Bayern management's attitude towards Thomas Muller.
The 35-year-old midfielder had previously announced that he would leave the Munich club at the end of the season. He was not offered a new contract, although the club allowed him to do so in January.
"He wants to stay in Munich until the end [of his career]. Now he thinks he can play for another year or two. And the club thinks he's not the same anymore. Well, that's normal.
I don't mind that Bayern decided not to offer him a new contract. I understand that. Okay, he's 35. But the way it's done is complete nonsense. Typical of Bayern.
You have one of the greatest players in history and you can't properly dismiss him. He has to figure it out for himself, as if between the lines. The club is doing a lot of stupid things.
I just can't believe that Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, could be so crazy about Thomas Muller.
"Listen, Thomas, from our point of view you are no longer at the top level. We don't want you on the bench or, worse, in the stands. This is not for Thomas Muller. You are one of the greatest in history."
