"Javier is still a Guadalajara player," Chivas sporting director Javier Mier downplays rumors of Chicharito's possible departure.
Since his return in January 2024, Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring just three goals.
Guadalajara's Clausura 2025 campaign ended in a disappointing end, as the club failed to qualify for the Liga MX finals. One of the targets of criticism has been the performance of Javier "Chicharito" Hernández. Returning to Chivas as a potential solution and a symbol of experience, the veteran striker has struggled to make a significant impact in his second stint at the club. Since returning in January 2024, Chicharito has made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring just three goals and providing one assist. In the recently concluded Clausura, he played in 11 league matches, totaling 607 minutes, and scored just one goal, in a 1–3 defeat to Atlético San Luis in Matchday 9. Speculation has grown about his potential departure, with Major League Soccer side San Diego FC reportedly being linked as a possible destination. However, Chivas sporting director Javier Mier has played down the reports. "Javier is currently a player for Deportivo Guadalajara," Mier said. "If any situation arises in the future, the first people to address it are the player and us, as is the case with every member of the team." He also noted that the club is undergoing a broader evaluation process following their elimination from the competition. "We didn't expect to have this analysis done so soon," he said, "but, like the rest of the team, we are reviewing everything. If anything specific comes up regarding Javier, it will be resolved directly between the club and the player."
