The award ceremony for the weightlifters who won medals at the European Weightlifting Championships held in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, was held today, April 25, at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, organized by the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia. The Armenian women's and men's teams became the winners of the team event of the European Championships.
The event was attended by Arayik Harutyunyan, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia, Hasmik Avagyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, medal-winning athletes, coaches and members of the medical staff.
Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia Arayik Harutyunyan congratulated on the achieved results.
"For the first time in history, both the men's and women's teams have been recognized as the best during one championship. We have a lot to do, especially in preparation for the 2027 World Championships in Yerevan and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles," said Arayik Harutyunyan, thanking the team's head coaches, the athletes' individual trainers, and the doctors.
Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Hasmik Avagyan also congratulated the medal-winning athletes and coaches. The Minister of Physical Culture and Sports emphasized the fact that such an event was organized at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.
"It is an honor to host athletes who have held our country's honor high on international platforms. Your victories are very inspiring. I am confident that through joint work, all the goals set for the federation in terms of developing the sport and registering high results will be realized," said Hasmik Avagyan, emphasizing that the Republic of Armenia pays special attention to encouraging high achievements in general and, in particular, base sports.
According to Hasmik Avagyan, weightlifting is a sport with traditions in our country, and its development is in the center of constant attention of the state.
In addition to the support provided by the state, the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia has also encouraged athletes and coaches for their work and achieved results.
The President of the Weightlifting Federation of Armenia, Arayik Harutyunyan, presented monetary awards to the medalists of the European Championship: Varazdat Lalayan, Garik Karapetyan, Gor Sahakyan, Rafik Harutyunyan, Anna Amroyan, Liana Gyurjyan, Alexandra Grigoryan, Garnik Cholakyan, Milena Khachatryan, Tatev Hakobyan. The head coach of the Armenian men's weightlifting team, Pashik Alaverdyan, coach Hakob Pilosyan, the head coach of the women's team, Artashes Nersisyan, coach Taron Tovmasyan, the team doctor, Davit Mosinyan, and the team masseur, Roza Hovhannisyan, were also awarded.
The President of the Federation (AWF) also awarded national referee titles to European champion Hripsime Khurshudyan and Garnik Abrahamyan.
