Former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Netherlands midfielder Clarence Seedorf has spoken negatively about the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, as he does not consider it an indicator.
"Why is the Ballon d'Or so important? I don't think it's a criterion or an indicator of anything. Maybe earlier, yes. When the coaches and players voted, I understood the meaning. Although sometimes they still didn't choose the best, but showed respect for their teammates or coaches. In general, I think that in each line you should choose a player separately: goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker. And only then - MVP. I would prefer that everything goes in that direction. "In many cases, the most valuable player could be, for example, Makélélé," Seedorf said in an exclusive interview with Championat correspondent Grigory Telingater.
Recall that the winner of the 2023/2024 Ballon d'Or was Manchester City's Spanish defensive midfielder Rodri.
