The World Youth Weightlifting Championships are starting in Lima, the capital of Peru. On the second day of the competition, Armenia had two representatives: the 2024 European champion in the 55 kg weight category, the 2025 vice-champion - Alexandra Grigoryan and the 67 kg weight category Hovhannes Hovhannisyan. Grigoryan recorded a result of 88 kg in the snatch. A few days ago, at the European Senior Championships in Chisinau, the Gyumri native managed to snatch a barbell weighing 85 kg. In the clean and jerk, Alexandryan recorded a result of 116 kg, winning the gold medal in the exercise and became the bronze medalist of the World Youth Championships with a result of 204 kg in the combined event (88+116).
Hovhannisyan held the 125 kg barbell above his head in the snatch. The Armenian weightlifter recorded a combined result of 280 kg, taking tenth place.
