Savings at Manchester United: What did Amorim pay for out of his own pocket?

Ruben Amorim has paid for the tickets of 30 of his Manchester United teammates for next week's Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain, after the club announced that coaches, physiotherapists and technical staff must buy their own tickets, ESPN reports.

United will play Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao on May 21. The team that wins the Europa League will secure a place in the Champions League next season.

However, United's management continues to implement cost-cutting measures, including plans to cut 200 staff at Old Trafford this summer, and has also provided a limited number of tickets for staff. The club also refused to fund staff travel to the final.

United explained this decision by wanting to buy as many of the 15,000 tickets allocated to the club for the match at San Mames as possible. Players have only been given two tickets, and travel expenses for relatives and friends will not be covered.

According to sources, Ruben Amorim, who brought part of his coaching staff to Old Trafford when he took over the club in November last year, decided to pay for his team's travel, including low-paid workers, as a token of appreciation for their contribution and dedication during a difficult six months at the club.

When it became clear that the club would not cover the cost of tickets for coaching staff and staff, Amorim informed United management that he would fund them so that each employee could bring up to two friends or family members with them.
