"Shirak" SA issued a statement
"On December 29, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at the Gyumri Football Academy: a 25-meter section of the academy's fence collapsed due to strong winds, which caused the death of a citizen. Public criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident."
Immediately after the accident, we duly informed the Football Federation of Armenia, which is the nominal owner of the infrastructure of the Gyumri Football Academy, about the incident.
A year and a half has passed, but no FFA representative has even considered it necessary to visit the academy to get acquainted with the situation on site.
During this time, we have repeatedly appealed to the FFA to remove the construction documents of the academy, and have also proposed creating a joint working group to record the construction and safety issues at the academy and provide appropriate solutions. However, we have again encountered absolute indifference from the FFA leadership.
"In order to prioritize the safety of the students training at the academy and reduce the likelihood of such a tragedy in the future, Shirak Football Club has no other choice but to hand over the Gyumri Football Academy to the Football Federation of Armenia," the club said in a statement.
Let us remind you that the Gyumri team is in sixth place in the current season's standings with 35 points and has finished its performances. In the last match, Rafael Nazaryan's boys lost to the championship's second-placed team "Gandzasar" with a score of 0:1.
