FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said that “negotiations are underway” regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential participation in this summer’s Club World Cup. Ronaldo’s club, Al-Nasr, failed to qualify for the expanded tournament, which will feature 32 clubs for the first time. Infantino has discussed the prospect of a transfer for the 40-year-old Portuguese forward so that he can compete in the new tournament organised by world football’s governing body.
In an interview with YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed, Infantino said:
"Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo could play in the Club World Cup. There are talks with some clubs, so if any club is watching it and is interested in signing Ronaldo for the Club World Cup... who knows, who knows."
FIFA has set an additional transfer window this summer, from June 1 to 10, to allow clubs participating in the Club World Cup to complete transfers in time for the start of the tournament. The competition will take place from June 14 to July 13 in the United States.
