Real Madrid announces that Alvaro Arbeloa will coach Castilla starting in the 2025-2026 season, the club's official website reports.
"Arbeloa is a legend of Real Madrid and Spanish football, as well as one of our club's most famous local players. Arbeloa has always been an exemplary representative of our club's values and has transmitted them during his work as a youth team coach," the press release said.
He joined the Royal Youth Academy in 2001 as a player in the Juvenil A team. In the 2004–2005 season, he was part of the Castilla team, which was promoted to the second division.
Alvaro played 238 games for the first team between 2009 and 2016. He won two European Cups, one Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one La Liga title, two Spanish Cups and one Spanish Super Cup.
He played 56 games for the Spanish national team, winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and twice, in 2008 and 2012, at the European Championships.
He joined the first team from Liverpool, where he made 98 appearances over three seasons.
His entire coaching career since 2020 has been linked to Real Madrid's youth teams. He led the Infantil A (U13) team in the 2020–2021 season, with which he won the championship title, the Cadet A (U15) team in the 2021–2022 season, and the Juvenil A (U19) team from 2022 to 2025. As coach of the Juvenil A team, he won three titles in the 2022–2023 season: La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League. This season, he also won La Liga and is in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
