Tottenham Hotspur have filed a lawsuit at the London Commercial Court against INEOS Automotive, a company owned by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Sky Sports reports.
According to court records, Tottenham filed a commercial lawsuit on Thursday, although specific details have not yet been released. It is understood the case concerns a contractual dispute.
Chemical group INEOS (of which INEOS Automotive is a part) signed a five-year deal with Tottenham in 2022, even before Ratcliffe bought shares in Manchester United. Thanks to the deal, INEOS Grenadier became the official all-wheel drive vehicle partner of the London club.
INEOS has terminated its sponsorship deal with Tottenham in March 2025, despite it having been in place for just three years. A spokesperson for INEOS Automotive told Sky Sports News:
"INEOS Automotive has been a partner of Tottenham Hotspur since 2022, taking over the partnership agreement between INEOS Group and the club since 2020. We had the contractual right to terminate this agreement and exercised it in December 2024."
Last month, the New Zealand Rugby Federation announced that it had filed a lawsuit against INEOS, accusing the company of failing to pay the first tranche of sponsorship funds for 2025. This amount was due to be paid under a six-year contract signed in 2021.
It is worth noting that in March this year, it was announced that INEOS had signed a new sponsorship deal with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
