Bayern board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who returned to the club in 2023, played a key role in the club's return to the Bundesliga title, along with Vincent Kompany. In an interview with Welt am Sonntag, the 69-year-old spoke about the club's internal problems, in particular the excessive spending on player salaries.
"One of our main problems is that salaries are too high. This also applies to Bayern. We have to admit self-critically that in some cases we have been too generous," Rummenigge admitted.
According to him, the club intends to review the structure of the salary fund. The first steps in this direction are expected in the summer, in particular, Leroy Sane, according to Rummenigge, will leave Galatasaray on July 1.
"Ideally, 14-16 players should receive a salary at a "very decent level", and another 4-6 at an average level. The rest of the team are young players from their own academy. As the example of PSG shows, even when revising the financial model, success can be achieved," he emphasized.
Rummenigge also commented on Florian Wirtz's loud rejection of a move to Bayern: the midfielder preferred the offer from Liverpool.
"We did everything we could. In this case, no one was at fault. It was Florian's decision and it must be respected."
