This Friday, news broke that Barcelona is planning to combine the opening of Spotify's renovated Camp Nou stadium, scheduled for the summer of 2026, with Lionel Messi's farewell match.
The club announced this during a meeting with representatives of some media outlets, noting that this is Barcelona's intention, which, according to them, has received preliminary consent from the other side.
However, sources consulted by MARCA do not confirm this. It is known that the club does indeed want to organize a farewell match after the sad departure of the Argentine legend. However, one important detail still needs to be agreed with the player himself.
To date, no one has directly approached Leo with an official offer to participate in this event. It will not be easy for him to agree. It is worth remembering that Messi left the club deeply offended. His tears at the farewell press conference were more than eloquent.
Since then, there has been no personal conversation between president Joan Laporta and Messi. Moreover, the player does not want any contact with the club president after his failed attempt to leave the team and later return.
Leo has not yet received an official invitation to the game. At the same time, he has already expressed his desire to say goodbye to the club through interviews and video messages shown at separate events. Messi has repeatedly stressed that Barcelona will always be in his heart, although he has not hidden his problems with the club's current leadership.
So, for now, Spotify's Camp Nou launch cannot be an official tribute to Leo, as the club has yet to receive his consent, despite extensive media coverage. And getting it won't be easy: there are things Messi is still having trouble accepting.
Recall that Lionel Messi was with Barcelona from 2001 to 2021. After that, he spent two seasons with PSG, and since 2023 he has been playing for Inter Miami.
