Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne explained in his first press conference after joining Napoli why he decided to continue his career in Italy.
"It's an honour to play for the same team that Maradona played for. I don't think it adds pressure to me. When you play for big teams there's always pressure because they want to win. Maradona is a legend, but I'm myself. I'll do my best and hopefully make the city and the fans happy. I'm here because this club is very competitive and I can show what I'm capable of here. I'm very excited about this new adventure. I still have the motivation and the qualities to be competitive at this level. I'm impressed by Napoli's plans and I'm very happy with my choice," De Bruyne was quoted as saying by Napoli's official website.
According to media reports, the Belgian's contract with Napoli runs until the summer of 2027. Under the terms of the agreement, the 33-year-old midfielder will earn 5 million euros per year.
De Bruyne played 40 games for Manchester City last season, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. His current market value is €20 million, according to Transfermarkt.
