During the 21st round match of the Fastex Premier League, Van vs. Alashkert (1:1), a fight broke out between fans and police, resulting in the match being interrupted for about 22 minutes.
All fan movements in Armenia are demanding the resignation of the current leadership of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA). These incidents began in the 14th round of the current season.
The fans of the Armenian National Team started their struggle during the match "Armenia" vs. "North Macedonia" (0:2), as a result of which the FFA was fined €37,500 by UEFA and 500 seats in the stadium were left empty during the national team's next match.
The football department issued a statement today, which reads:
"Due to the behavior of certain groups of fans during the UEFA Nations League match between Armenia and the Faroe Islands, the only stadium in Armenia that meets UEFA's high international standards, the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, is under special monitoring by UEFA."
According to UEFA's conclusion, if a similar incident occurs again, the Republican Stadium may be disqualified, which means that the Armenian national team and Armenian clubs cannot play at this stadium and, most importantly, all of this will have a very negative impact on the possibility of hosting the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Armenia (jointly with Georgia).
"We condemn such behavior by fan groups, seeing in it a tendency to harm Armenian football. We call on everyone to refrain from such behavior and to devote themselves exclusively to cheering for our teams during matches."
