Today, August 6, by the decision of the Armenian Football Federation Executive Committee, Yeghishe Melikyan officially became the head coach of the Armenian national team.
Yeghishe Melikyan (born August 13, 1979 in Yerevan, Armenia, Armenian SSR, USSR) is an Armenian football player who played as a left winger. His last club was the Ukrainian club "Goverla". He played 29 matches for the Armenian national team.

Returning to Yerevan in 2020, he headed FC Alashkert until 2021.
In 2021, he moved to Yerevan's Pyunik, which at that time was in crisis and in eighth place in the domestic championship standings. Shortly after, he became the champion of Armenia with the most titled club in Armenia, which was the 15th championship in the 33-year-old club's history, and then that number reached 16.
The eight-time Armenian Cup winner, led by Yeghishe Melikyan, has played in the qualifying rounds of tournaments under the auspices of UEFA. The most successful is the UEFA Conference League, within which the ten-time Armenian Super Cup winner reached the group stage (the current league stage) and became the first Armenian club to achieve this feat.

Speaking about his appointment, Yeghishe Melikyan said:
"I am proud to assume the position of head coach of the Armenian national team. I realize the complexity of the moment and the full responsibility, but I am ready to walk this path with honor. I will make all my decisions for the benefit of the national team and Armenian football. Right now is the time to join forces. I call on the entire football community to unite around the national team."
FFA President Armen Melikbekyan, referring to the appointment of Yeghishe Melikyan, noted:
"The Football Federation of Armenia has decided to change the direction of the development of the Armenian national team. We are grateful to John van 't Skhip for his work. Now we are entrusting the team's leadership to an Armenian specialist who knows Armenian football very well from the inside, as he has come a long way - from a player of the Armenian national team to a coach who has won two championships in Armenian club football in recent years."
"We are hopeful that thanks to the cooperation and daily hard work of the FFA staff and Yeghishe Melikyan, the Armenian national team will be able to achieve good results. I believe that thanks to consolidation and unity, we will be able to take a step forward."
