Liverpool's Argentine midfielder Alexis McAllister has revealed that he received an offer from Russia at a certain stage of his career. At the time, the midfielder was playing for Brighton and the coronavirus pandemic was raging around the world.
"We footballers always say we become men too early. But in other ways we are still boys. I would FaceTime my mother every day and ask her how to turn on the oven and where to put the dishwasher. And when you are alone and not playing, you get depressed. Many people don't know this, but by that Christmas, when there were no fans in the stadiums, I had already packed my bags. Literally, they were already packed. I had two offers to move, one from Russia, the other from Spain, and I made a decision. My mother returned to Buenos Aires, and one day I called her with tears in my eyes and said: 'I'm leaving. I can't do this anymore,'" McAllister wrote in a column for The Players' Tribune.
Alexis played for Brighton from 2019 to 2023. He was loaned out twice to Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors. Since 2023, the midfielder has been playing for Liverpool. In 2022, McAllister became the world champion with the Argentine national team, and at the end of last season he won the English Premier League with the Merseyside club.
