The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) plans to launch a new international tournament for national teams, the European Nations Cup. The decision was made at its annual congress during the 2025 World Championship.
The new tournament is designed to allow all national teams to play meaningful matches during the breaks between European international matches. Twelve national associations will participate in the tournament.
The Congress also announced that a Global Hockey Forum will be held in Nice, France this fall. The event will focus on three areas: game development, marketing, and women's hockey. National member associations have been invited to send representatives to each of the three areas of the forum.
