Christian Kivu: "As a coach, I know I always take risks"

Inter Milan head coach Christian Chivu shared his feelings about winning the 2025/2026 Serie A title ahead of schedule after the 35th round of the tournament, where the Inter Milan defeated Parma (2:0).

"I was part of Inter's history before this (laughs). I'm happy for these players, the club and the fans, because they had to endure the history and the ridicule of those who always tried to belittle their work. The team rolled up their sleeves, rebuilt and found the motivation to have a competitive season. They did it and I'm happy for them. The 21st Scudetto is an important chapter in the history of this great club."

I am just as happy now as I was when I was winning as a player, although I was younger, with longer hair and a little less grey. I wanted to look good for the interview that evening. Due to duty, responsibility and what this club represents, we had to be competitive. The season has its ups and downs. It is a marathon where the most consistent team, with the most points, wins in the end. Fortunately, that was us. We built on the good work we did from the start, despite a few defeats. But we were able to react, get back on our feet and focus on our goal.

In January and February we realised that we are really competitive and that we can achieve this. We overcame difficult moments, such as being eliminated from the Champions League and losing in the derby, and we stayed on our feet to stay competitive until the end. I am happy for the players. They deserve to go out on the pitch and feel the warmth and love of the fans. They should enjoy this moment.

We must also pay tribute to the club, which has always supported us and given us everything we needed in difficult times. Our players truly deserve it.

I'm not talking about myself. Personally, I'm a pretty unusual person. A few years ago I had a serious conversation with myself about life and death, and at that time I lost my selfishness. I try to be the best version of myself and help these players who sometimes need a "stick", sometimes a "carrot". I use my experience in the locker room and in team management to understand situations and not repeat the mistakes I made as a player. I wanted to be a coach in my own way: to be compassionate and humane, not thinking about myself or external approval. I think about the people who care and about giving everything to the team and the fans.

"As a coach, I know that I always take risks and I have to accept it with a smile and the awareness that even when things are going badly, I have to do my best. In terms of play, we have always wanted to be proactive, but we have had to make adjustments depending on the opponent: double rotations, more positional changes, using short, simple passes when we are under pressure. You always have to understand the game, adapt and read what the opponent is trying to do. My predecessors did a great job because those players read the game very well and it was easier for me to adapt to the games. Good players help coaches win titles and make their dreams come true. As for my opponents, I can only learn from them because they have achieved a lot and left their mark on the history of football," Chivu told the Nerazzurri's official website.
