As part of the 22nd round of the Fastex Premier League, Yerevan's Ararat hosted Yerevan's Pyunik.
The teams are pursuing different goals in the current situation: Ararat is currently at the bottom of the standings and is six points behind Shirak in ninth place, while Pyunik has 41 points and is in third place. Ararat-Armenia and Urartu share the first and second places with 42 points each. In the current situation, the 16-time champion of Armenia wants to lead the championship, while Ararat wants to avoid taking last place.
At the start of the match, both “Pyunik” and “Ararat” were losing the ball quickly, but the home team showed more active football. “Pyunik” has won the last six matches between the teams, keeping a clean sheet in five of them. At the end of the first half, due to a foul on Momo Yansaney, “Pyunik” was awarded a penalty kick (11m), but the captain of the “Pomegranate” team, Edgar Malakyan, who approached the ball, shot high. Thus, the teams went into the break with a goalless draw.
In the second half, Pyunik was completely transformed, Edgar Malakyan and his teammates organized attacks from different parts of the field, which Ararat was ready to resist. The home team, performing defensive actions throughout the match, was also in search of a goal, in the added time of the match, Mamadou Doumbia opened the score (1:0).
Thus, Ararat wins, earning Pyunik 9 points, but remaining in place, Pyunik is in third place in the Fastex Premier League standings with 41 points.
