As part of the fourth round of the Armenian Premier League, Yerevan's Ararat hosted Pyunik at home.
In the previous round, Karen Barseghyan's men won 2:1 against CSKA Moscow. In the second round, Pyunik defeated Charentsavan's Van. In the third round, Artak Oseyan's team's opponent was Sardarapat, with whom the match was canceled due to technical problems.
In the first half, Pyunik tried to attack more and had more possession, while Ararat played reliably in defense. According to sportsworld.am , Ararat has made progress in terms of play since Karen Barseghyan took over the team, but in the 2026/27 season, Ararat has only won one game and lost two in three games.
In the second half, Ararat was left with ten players, the former captain of the Armenian national team, Varazdat Haroyan, was sent off the field, after which Pyunik began to exert even more pressure and attack the Ararat goal, Anzimati Abudu did a great job keeping his own goal unassailable until the 90+3 minute of the match. Pyunik opened the score of the match with a goal by Gevorg Tarakhchyan (1:0), which was the third goal for the 24-year-old football player in the current championship. The Armenian football player managed to participate in all three matches in the 2026/27 season. In the 13th minute of added time of the match, Vyacheslav Afyan doubled his team's advantage (2:0).
Thus, Pyunik defeated Ararat in an away game and was in third place in the Armenian Premier League standings with 7 points, while Ararat is in ninth place with three points.
