In the last match of the fourth round of the Armenian Premier League, the champion of Armenia, Ararat-Armenia, hosted Sardarapat, representing Armavir region. In the previous round, Ararat-Armenia won over Van of Charentsavan with a score of 2:0. Sardarapat was supposed to play against Pyunik in the away match, which was postponed due to technical problems.
Ararat-Armenia organized an attack from the left wing and in the seventh minute of the match, Zhirayr Shaghoyan scored his first goal of the current season, scoring a goal defended by Gor Matinyan (1:0).
"Sardarapat" began to show active football, appearing as the loser, and in the 22nd minute of the match, Levon Petrosyan restored the balance of the score (1:1), bringing his number of goals to three in the current season.
In the second half, Ararat-Armenia had dangerous moments, but could not send the ball into the opponent's goal. Thus, the reigning champion of Armenia ended the match with Sardarapat in a draw and with ten points earned takes second place in the Armenian Premier League standings, while Sardarapat closes the top five with seven points.
Let's add that in the match against Sardarapat, Ararat-Armenia captain Armen Hambardzumyan played his 2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣th official match in his Armenian career. He played in all matches wearing his native club's jersey. With that indicator, Armen Hambardzumyan is the record holder for Ararat-Armenia.
According to sportsworld.am, Ararat-Armenia had resorted to rotation and was unable to break the resistance of the club representing Armavir region before the return match of the Europa League qualifying play-off round with Universitatea Craiova, which will be held on August 27 at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan and will kick off at 8:00 PM Yerevan time.
