Xabi Alonso comments on his appointment as Chelsea manager

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has spoken about his appointment. The Spaniard has signed a four-year contract.

 Chelsea is one of the greatest clubs in world football, and I feel incredibly proud to become the coach of such a great club.

From my conversations with the owners and the sporting management, it became clear that we share the same goals. We want to build a team that can consistently perform at the highest level and compete for trophies.

"There are many talented players in the team and this football club has huge potential. It would be a great honour for me to lead it. Now the most important thing is to work hard, create the right culture and win trophies," Alonso was quoted as saying by the club's press service.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the London club has signed a four-year contract with the specialist, until June 2030. An official statement from Alonso is expected in the coming hours, according to reports. It is said that Xabi's contract will come into effect on July 1, but the Spanish coach will begin work immediately, including overseeing the club's transfer business.
