Gor Minasyan, representing the Bahraini team, won the title of winner at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships held in India.
In the (+110) kg weight category, the 31-year-old athlete recorded a combined result of 457 kg, becoming the Asian champion for the third time in his career.
Minasyan's main rival was Iran's Alireza Youssef, who won the silver medal with a combined result of 445 kg. The Iranian weightlifter lifted 261 kg in the clean and jerk and set a world record, but lost to the leader in the sum of two exercises. The top three was rounded out by South Korea's Son Yeon-hwan, whose final result was 416 kg.
It is noteworthy that Minasyan's final result at the Asian Championship exceeds by 6 kg the indicator with which Armenian Varazdat Lalayan had earlier won the European champion title.
The weightlifter from Gyumri reaffirmed his position among the world's super heavyweights, bringing Bahrain another gold medal.
